What does the law say?

Anyone who visits a website that uses cookies should, according to the Electronic Communications Act, be informed that the site contains cookies, what they are used for and how to choose to remove them.

The user must also provide a simplified conscious consent to the use of cookies. This does not apply to cookies that are necessary for the application to work. The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency has no specified technical description of how the consent is to be given, but states that it is up to the owner of the website to develop a solution that complies with the law.

The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency recommends that the information about cookies should contain the name, domain, lifetime, type of data stored and the purpose of all cookies on the page.

More information about cookies and the law on electronic communication can be found on the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency's website.
